We are currently seeking a Permanent Automation Project Manager to join our client’s team based in Telford, West Midlands. This pivotal role involves leading multiple automation projects with a focus on controlling systems, electrical/PLC design, and development across sectors such as conveyors, robotics, automotive, and logistics automation. The successful candidate will oversee the entire project lifecycle, from developing and gaining sign-off on functional design specifications to managing project resources, scheduling, risk assessment, and ensuring delivery within budget and set timelines. Daily responsibilities include developing control layouts, preparing technical documentation, coordinating with clients, and ensuring all safety and industry standards are met. The role requires strong communication skills for effective team leadership and client engagement, along with technical expertise to develop solutions that meet project requirements. Visiting customer sites to monitor project progress and conducting final testing and acceptance are also essential parts of the role.
- Proven experience in controls engineering, PLC programming, or automation project management
- Strong background in electrical/PLC design & development and industry standards
- Experience with conveyor systems, robotics, or automotive automation preferred
- Excellent project management skills, including scheduling, risk, and budget management
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for control panel layouts and design documentation
- Ability to manage multiple projects, ensuring deliverables meet client and company standards
- Knowledge of CE/UKCA marking and technical documentation requirements
- Effective communication skills for liaising with clients, team members, and suppliers
- Willingness to visit customer sites and attend project meetings as required
