Job Title: Controls Commissioning Engineer (Contract) – Automated Warehousing
Duration: 6-12 Months
Location: Various sites across the UK (travel may be required)
Rate: Competitive daily (depending on experience and client project)
About the Role
We are actively seeking experienced Controls Engineers for multiple upcoming projects across the automated warehouse sector. You will work on-site with leading system integrators, OEMs and end clients in the design, commissioning and support of control systems for high-throughput automated facilities.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop PLC software (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, etc.)
- Commissioning of automated systems including conveyors, ASRS, sorters and robotic arms
- Debugging and fault-finding of control systems
- Modification of existing control systems to support upgrades and system changes
- Integration of SCADA/HMI and PLC systems
- Collaborating with electrical design, mechanical, and project teams
- Ensuring projects are delivered to specification, on time and within budget
- Providing technical support and documentation during and after commissioning
- Site-based commissioning across UK client locations
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong experience in automated warehouse or intralogistics environments
- Proficient in PLC programming – ideally Siemens (TIA Portal, S7), Allen-Bradley (RSLogix, Studio 5000), or similar
- Knowledge of SCADA/HMI platforms (e.g., WinCC, FactoryTalk View, Ignition)
- Experience with conveyor systems, sortation, or robotics
- Familiar with fieldbus technologies (Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP)
- Able to read and interpret electrical schematics and P&IDs
- Comfortable with on-site work, travel, and working to tight deadlines
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Desirable Qualifications
- Degree/HND/HNC in Electrical, Electronic or Control Engineering
- Valid ECS/CSCS card (preferred)
- Safety Systems knowledge (e.g Pilz, Sick)
- Experience with WCS/WMS integration is a bonus
