Job Title: Project Manager (Contract) – Automated Warehousing
Duration: 6-12 Months
Location: UK-wide (travel to client sites as required)
Rate: Competitive daily rate (DOE)
About the Role
We are actively recruiting experienced Project Managers to lead and deliver high-profile projects within the automated warehouse sector. Working directly with system integrators, automation vendors and end clients, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of complex automation projects involving conveyors, ASRS, robotics and WCS/WMS systems.
These roles are ideal for proactive project professionals with strong experience in fast-paced industrial automation environments who can manage timelines, budgets, stakeholders and technical teams from concept through to handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Full lifecycle project management of automation and material handling projects
- Liaising with internal teams and external stakeholders including suppliers, clients, and subcontractors
- Managing project budgets, schedules, and scope to ensure delivery on time and within budget
- Leading multi-disciplinary teams including controls, mechanical, electrical, and software engineers
- Overseeing on-site installation, commissioning, and testing phases
- Identifying project risks and implementing mitigation strategies
- Chairing project meetings, producing progress reports, and maintaining documentation
- Ensuring health & safety, compliance, and quality standards are met throughout
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven track record delivering projects in automated warehousing, intralogistics, material handling, or related sectors
- Experience managing complex technical projects (mechanical, controls, and software integration)
- Excellent organisational and leadership skills
- Strong stakeholder and client communication skills
- Familiarity with WMS/WCS systems and warehouse processes
- Understanding of automation technologies: conveyors, ASRS, robotics, PLC/SCADA
- Comfortable working on-site at customer locations and managing contractors
Desirable Qualifications
- Degree/HND/HNC in Engineering, Project Management, or related field
- Project Management certifications (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP, APM)
- SMSTS or equivalent site safety qualification (advantageous)
- Familiarity with Gantt tools (MS Project, Primavera, etc.)
- Experience with CDM regulations and site-based delivery models
